Maine Seacoast Mission Hooked Rugs, 1923 – 1938
A view of the hard lives of South Gouldsboro fishermen’s wives and the changes that occurred when Maine Seacoast Mission employee Alice M. Peasley began the Mission’s Hooked Rug Program. The beautiful hooked rugs the women made became not only a source of income, but also a recognition of their talent and self-worth.
